"Spotlight Publicity Genuinely Wanted Me to Succeed"
I chose spotlight because of their straight-forward, realistic approach that was combined with what I felt was a fair price. I found them on an internet search for book publicists.
Overall I'd give them an 8.5 [on a 10 pt scale]. They get high marks for being accessible and responsive to my needs as a client.
The best thing about working with Spotlight [Publicity] was that I really felt they were in my corner, and genuinely wanted me to succeed. So, I felt confident they were giving my campaign their best effort.
What would I or could they do differently? That's tough to say because here are the results so far:
At the beginning of the campaign I was a first time, self-published, unknown author. The campaign resulted in 3 book reviews by Amazon top-50 reviewers, 20 book signings, 12 media appearances (8 radio, 4 TV), 6-8 newspaper mentions (most notable - Bay City Times feature), The book is in stock at 20 Independent Bookstores in Michigan. I've sold 100+ and have another 100+ on bookstore shelves.
I've learned this so far. It's important to have someone to guide you, keep you organized, boost your spirits when you feel discouraged, and give you a reality check when you're pissed because Oprah hasn't called. Lea did all of that for me, and more. She didn't promise or deliver a fast track to stardom, but I think she got me headed in the right direction, and off to a relly good start.
